![]() The program relates to Communication Tools. The following version: 1.0 is the most frequently downloaded one by the program users. Personally, while I will be using my free trial of premium, I will also be exploring other apps that have similar functionality, such as Calendars 5. This software for Mac OS X is an intellectual property of Flexibits Inc. It's not clear yet if Flexibits just shot themselves in the proverbial foot or if, after the dust settles, enough people will become premium subscribers to sustain this product. It will be interesting to see how this plays out. When you install Chatology, it’ll scan your message logs. In addition to discounting Fantastical for each platform, Flexibits is also taking half off its Chatology app which helps you archive and search messages on your Mac. It works in conjunction with Messages, allowing you to actually search. That’s where Flexibits Chatology (20) comes in. The added functionality in Fantastical does not warrant that cost IMO. Try typing in a search term, and your Mac will likely freeze up altogether. ![]() Fantastical is charging $40 a year and even for me (someone with a decent disposable income), I do not consider that reasonable. The annual subscription cost is also very reasonable. Day One is such an app - the developers have heavily supported the app, new features are added all the time, and they provide extensive support to customers. Chatology for Mac Because Chatology is not available on the Mac App Store, Flexibits could sidestep Apple’s limitations and create an option to override Messages’ default F search shortcut to activate Chatology instead. However, the native iMessage search is seriously limited on. Flexibits’ unique spin on Messages log collection starts from how you can quickly launch Chatology directly from Apple’s Messages app. To get to the beginning of a text message thread on your Mac, you just keep pulling the scroll bar up, over and over, until you reach the top. In addition, I don't have an issue paying for an app that is very well-supported and constantly comes out with new features AND is reasonably priced. First, to review, to get to the beginning of text messages on an iPhone you tap the very top of the screen repeatedly, while in the thread. While this seems to be due to an issue with the roll-out, failure of the developers to acknowledge this is a bad sign. ![]() The developers have insisted that people who purchased version 2 previously would not lose any features, but reading the posts on Reddit and twitter make it clear that this was not the case, and people DID lose features they had already paid for. HOWEVER, like many, I have issues with how this update was rolled out. I get a 6-month free trial of premium so will use that and see how I feel at the end. Flexibits, makers of the popular calendar app Fantastical for Mac and iPhone, have just announced their next product for the Mac. The update is nice and definitely makes the app more functional. The guys at Flexibits made Chatology for themselves and thought that others would be interested in using it. When I recently switched back to using Reminders for my task management, I started using Fantastical even more heavily. I have been a Fantastical user for years on my iPhone.
